I hate to be the one to rain on your parade, but, having gone through every brand on the market, the only way to get color to last is by going to a professional colorist. I wish I could gift you my red hair! No matter whether I use blonde or brown, it keeps wanting to go back to the beginning. I finally gave up and set aside a part of my budget to have it done at the salon. The one brand I really did find I liked consistently was the L'Oreal creme. Good luck.

L'Oreal Preference. You have to spend a little more, but it covers and lasts the longest. Wal-mart has it for the best price. Good luck.

Theres Natural Match, its a very good brand with no ammonia. No ammonia means that its better for your hair with no harsh smell and it is permanent and does last a few months. Theres also Natural Instincts, Im presently using it, its very good, once again it doesnt have ammonia. I heard from a friend that Garnier is good but it can sometimes give you red highlights

If you dye your hair a color that it very far from its own it won't last very long. All permanent dye should stay close to its color for 4-6 weeks if done properly. If you want a ery bright red that will stay for a long time check out a sallys beauty supply store. You don't have to be licensed to shop there and it has very good quality dyes.

For some reason, red is the hardest color to get to stay put. It is also the hardest color to remove when you're done with it, go figure! Anyway, a more expensive brand really won't do it better. My personal favorite for red box color is by Loreal, they have beautiful reds! Get a good color shampoo, don't use baby, clarifying, or dandruff shampoos, they will strip out the color faster. When you wash, use a good conditioner and rinse in cold water, as cold as you can stand it. Doing this will lay the cuticle down and help hold those red molecules in longer, plus your hair will be super shiny. Be careful with heat, like with your flat iron and such, make sure you always use a thermal protectant before you apply heat.
